Gotrade News - The artificial intelligence arms race entered a new phase this week as Amazon committed up to $25 billion in additional funding to Anthropic. Separately, Jeff Bezos' secretive AI venture Project Prometheus is closing a $10 billion round at a $38 billion valuation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Amazon's total Anthropic commitment reaches $33 billion, including a $100 billion decade-long AWS infrastructure deal
  • Jeff Bezos' Project Prometheus AI lab nears $38 billion valuation with backing from JPMorgan and BlackRock
  • The mega-deals signal that Big Tech's AI spending war is accelerating rather than cooling off

Amazon-Anthropic Partnership Expands

Amazon announced an additional $5 billion investment in Anthropic, with up to $20 billion more tied to commercial milestones. The deal brings Amazon's total commitment to $33 billion and cements AWS as Anthropic's primary cloud and training partner.

Anthropic will spend over $100 billion on AWS technologies over the next decade, including Trainium chips and Graviton hardware. More than 100,000 developers already build on AWS using Anthropic's Claude models through seamlessly integrated access.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy framed the partnership as validation of the company's custom chip manufacturing strategy. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said the collaboration enables continued AI research while scaling infrastructure to meet surging demand for Claude.

Bezos Builds His Own AI Empire

Jeff Bezos is separately raising $10 billion for Project Prometheus, his AI venture focused on systems that understand the physical world. The round values the company at roughly $38 billion and has attracted institutional heavyweights JPMorgan and BlackRock.

The fundraise was expanded due to strong investor demand and is expected to close soon. Project Prometheus marks Bezos' first operational role since stepping down as Amazon CEO in 2021.

The venture is also pursuing a separate investment vehicle to acquire stakes in businesses likely to be disrupted by its technology. For investors watching the AI space, the scale of capital flowing into both Anthropic and Project Prometheus underscores that the industry's biggest players see no ceiling on AI infrastructure spending.

Companies like Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta are each pouring hundreds of billions into competing AI ecosystems. The race to dominate AI compute and model development is reshaping how the largest technology companies allocate capital for years to come.
