Gotrade News - Global gold prices have decreased due to the strengthening of the U.S. dollar and inflation concerns overshadowing the market. On Wednesday (3/11/2026) New York time, spot gold prices fell by 0.4% to $5,169.02 per ounce. This movement has caught the attention of young investors in Indonesia who are monitoring safe haven assets like gold.

  • Gold prices pressured by strong U.S. dollar.
  • Rising U.S. inflation affects market decisions.
  • Antam gold prices also experience significant drop.

The strengthening U.S. dollar makes gold more expensive for holders of other currencies, thereby reducing interest in the yellow metal. Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures contracts for April delivery fell by 1.2% to $5,179.10 per ounce. This momentum should be noted by the younger generation entering the gold investment realm.

On the other hand, Antam (ANTM) gold prices in Indonesia also declined on Thursday (3/12/2026). Gold bullion prices dropped by Rp45,000 to Rp3,042,000 per gram. This aligns with a buyback decline that also fell by Rp43,000 to Rp2,804,000 per gram. This data is relevant for individual investors actively purchasing physical gold.

Additionally, U.S. inflation contributes to gold price pressure. The U.S. consumer price index rose by 0.3% in February, higher than the January increase. This raises concerns that high interest rates might persist longer. Gold is often considered a hedge against inflation, but its appeal weakens if high interest rates are prolonged.

The strengthening dollar with a 0.4% rise in its index adds to the pressure on gold. Market participants now await the release of the U.S. personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index data expected this week. This economic data will be crucial in determining future market policy directions.

Meanwhile, oil prices surged by 4% due to an attack in the Strait of Hormuz, triggering supply disruption worries globally. Geopolitical uncertainties pose a risk factor for investors trying to balance their portfolios. Amid this instability, investment decisions must be made with careful consideration.

This data serves as a consideration for those contemplating gold as an investment instrument amid uncertain economic conditions. Thus, the current drop in gold prices might offer new investors an opportunity to begin diversifying their portfolios.
