Investors Alerted, Gold Prices Volatile

Gotrade News - Global gold prices are experiencing volatility amid geopolitical uncertainty between the United States and Iran. Initial declines were seen as investors anticipate developments from a conflict that could disrupt global oil trade routes, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz.

This situation is prompting market participants to adopt a wait-and-see approach while awaiting the deadline for an agreement. U.S. President Donald Trump has issued stern warnings regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures have seen a slight uptick. This investor anticipation underscores the uncertainty overshadowing the market.

Bart Melek, Global Commodity Strategy Head at TD Securities, emphasized that the market's attention is currently focused on geopolitical conflicts and interest rate policies. Prolonged conflict could increase energy prices, especially oil, adding inflationary pressures.

Rising energy prices could limit central bank actions, particularly by the Federal Reserve, to ease monetary policy. Additionally, discussions on hiking interest rates could resurface if energy prices continue to surge.

On the other hand, gold prices rebounded on Tuesday morning, rising about 0.20% from previous levels. However, overall, geopolitical tensions remain a key factor.

Alongside gold movements, market participants are also anticipating significant U.S. economic data. The Federal Reserve’s policy meeting minutes and inflation data are in the spotlight this week.

The U.S. central bank decided to hold interest rates steady last month. Currently, the majority of market participants do not foresee any rate cuts through 2026.

Amid this uncertainty, gold remains considered a hedge against geopolitical and inflation risks, although its appeal diminishes when interest rates are high.
