Gotrade News - On Tuesday (March 31), former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the war against Iran could end in two to three weeks. This prediction came after the United States achieved most of its military objectives in the Middle East. Trump believes it's time for the U.S. to withdraw and hand over the Strait of Hormuz crisis to other countries. This move is seen as capable of reducing tensions in the region.
- Resolving the Middle East crisis could lessen uncertainty in the oil market.
- Oil prices dropped as hope for the war's end increased.
- Regional stability still depends on diplomacy after the U.S. withdrawal.
Currently, the U.S. remains committed to ensuring Iran does not possess nuclear weapons. Although no formal agreement with Tehran exists, Trump feels the main objectives have been achieved. This stance has spurred market speculation, including in the global oil sector, which is responding positively to the potential end of the war. This initial effect is seen in the 1.5% drop in WTI crude prices to USD 101.38 per barrel.
In line with Trump's statement, Brent crude prices for June delivery fell by 2.6% to USD 104.63 per barrel. The hope for the end of a major conflict in the Middle East is a driving factor, though it is noted that oil prices remain volatile. Analysts observe that if prices rise again to USD 125 or USD 130, the economic impact could be significant. Peter Cardillo of Spartan Capital notes this situation also influences U.S. policy on Iran.
On the other hand, Iran is also indicated to be willing to end the war, provided certain guarantees are met. This is a crucial step for the global energy market, which has long faced vulnerabilities due to prolonged conflict. Although optimism is emerging, normalization of relations still requires further diplomacy. The role of regional actors is expected to be key in maintaining stability after the shift in U.S. strategy.
This shift in Middle Eastern dynamics impacts not only security but is also an integral part of global oil market calculations. With the possibility of the war ending sooner, market players are formulating new strategies in response to the change in U.S. policy. Nevertheless, attention remains on how these tensions are diplomatically resolved to completion.
