Gotrade News - Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Speaker Ahmad Muzani is urging the government to contemplate the withdrawal of all Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) personnel from the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. This request follows an Israeli attack that resulted in the death of three Konga Garuda members. Muzani emphasized that this step is necessary to ensure the safety of TNI members in the conflict zone.

During a press conference on Tuesday (31/03/2026), Muzani stressed the importance of safeguarding citizens' lives. He stated that without safety guarantees, the government should consider troop withdrawal, as mandated by the national constitution. The fallen soldiers, Captain Zulmi, Sergeant First Class Ihwan, and Private Farizal Rhomadhon, were all stationed in South Lebanon, an area deemed extremely hazardous.

This statement marks a pivotal moment for the government to reevaluate Indonesia's participation in high-risk peacekeeping missions. Muzani highlighted the urgency of proactive measures to ensure that the safety of TNI personnel is a top priority, especially in light of the real threats recently witnessed in the region.

The decision to pull out troops from Lebanon demands a thorough assessment of broader political and security implications. However, the primary concern remains the safety of soldiers on the ground, which is paramount in shaping any policy decisions. The protection of TNI personnel plays a crucial role in maintaining the nation's honor and integrity.

Withdrawing troops from the UNIFIL mission would signify a shift in Indonesia's foreign and security policy on the international stage. The peaceful diplomacy showcased through participation in international peacekeeping has been a significant aspect of Indonesia's reputation as a peace-loving nation. Nonetheless, protecting the lives of its citizens remains the utmost priority.
