Gotrade News - Ahead of Eid 2026, food prices in the national market are showing a significant upward trend. Commodities like onions and chili peppers have seen price hikes observed last Monday (16/3), as reported by the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS).
The price of red onions has risen to Rp 47,600 per kg, while garlic has increased to Rp 42,000 per kg. A similar spike occurred with chili commodities, with red bird's eye chilies soaring to Rp 97,000 per kg. This situation has drawn attention in the markets ahead of the major holiday.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso acknowledged these price fluctuations during his visit to Rawasari Market. Although some commodities have increased, the government claims that the prices of staple commodities like chicken and red onions remain stable. Strict monitoring will be conducted both up to and after Eid to maintain market stability.
The price of broiler chicken in the national market has slightly risen to Rp 42,300 per kg, whereas a decrease was seen in the DKI Jakarta markets. The price of chicken eggs has also increased to Rp 34,100 per kg nationally. However, a different scenario is occurring in DKI Jakarta, where broiler chicken prices have dropped.
The price fluctuations are not limited to meat and eggs, but extend to cooking oil and rice. Cooking oil is priced differently in the national and DKI Jakarta markets, and rice prices in DKI Jakarta vary, with figures higher than the national average.
The Trade Minister stressed the government's commitment to monitoring and ensuring food availability. He also added that the fluctuation in chili prices is above the Highest Retail Price (HET). In some cases, increased demand ahead of Eid contributes to the price leap.
Differences in beef prices have also been observed, with variations based on type or quality. The Minister noted prices could range from Rp 140,000 to Rp 160,000 per kg. On-ground monitoring continues in coordination with relevant departments to maintain price stability.
The government will ensure price stability even as many traders go home for the holiday. This demonstrates that market mechanisms are still functioning well, and the supply remains secure ahead of Eid.
