Google dividend investors currently receive $0.22 per share each quarter from Alphabet, about $0.88 a year, which works out to a yield of roughly 0.25% to 0.26%; the most recent ex-dividend date was September 4, 2026, and the next one has not yet been announced.
Google is owned by Alphabet Inc., which trades under two tickers: Alphabet Class A (GOOGL) and Alphabet Class C (GOOG).
Both classes receive the same dividend. Alphabet only began paying dividends in 2024, so this is a young income stream attached to one of the largest growth companies in the world.
The sections below lay out the current numbers, the short payout history, how well cash flow covers the payment, and what the ex-dividend calendar means for shareholders.
Alphabet Dividend Snapshot: $0.22 a Quarter, About 0.25% Yield
According to Alphabet's second quarter 2026 earnings release, published July 22, 2026, the Board declared "a quarterly cash dividend of $0.22 per share on our Class A, Class B, and Class C stock," payable on September 14, 2026 to stockholders of record as of September 7, 2026.
Per the dividend calendar on StockEvents, the matching ex-dividend date was September 4, 2026, and the stock's current yield stands at 0.25%.

Freshness note: the dividend rate and dates come from the July 22, 2026 release, the latest Alphabet dividend declaration available as of October 8, 2026.
Yield moves with the share price, so treat the 0.25% figure as a point-in-time reading. As reported by TIKR on September 14, 2026, the yield was 0.26% with the stock near $339, below its 0.29% average.
Alphabet Dividend History 2024 to 2026: Two 5% Raises Since Launch
Alphabet has raised its quarterly dividend once a year, each time in April alongside its first quarter results. Per the company's first quarter 2024 earnings release, the Board approved the initiation of a dividend program with a first payment of $0.20 per share, paid on June 17, 2024 to holders of record on June 10, 2024.
According to the first quarter 2025 earnings release, the company "announced a 5% increase to the dividend, resulting in a quarterly cash dividend of $0.21," payable June 16, 2025.
Then, per the first quarter 2026 earnings release dated April 29, 2026, the Board declared $0.22 per share, "a 5% increase from the previous quarterly dividend of $0.21," payable June 15, 2026.
Year | Quarterly rate set in April | Change | First payment at new rate |
|---|
2024 | $0.20 | Program initiated | June 17, 2024 |
2025 | $0.21 | +5% | June 16, 2025 |
2026 | $0.22 | +5% | June 15, 2026 |
The 2026 payments so far show the April step-up in practice. According to StockEvents, Alphabet paid $0.21 on March 16, 2026 (ex-date March 9), then $0.22 on June 15, 2026 (ex-date June 8) and $0.22 on September 14, 2026 (ex-date September 4).
Alphabet's quarterly report for the period ended June 30, 2026 confirms cash dividends of $0.21 per share for the first quarter and $0.22 per share for the second quarter. These are dividend amounts, not earnings per share. The dividend is growing, but Alphabet only began paying it in June 2024, so its record covers about two and a half years and ten quarterly payments, too short to call a long-term dividend track record. That is separate from the company's much longer history as a listed business, which dates back to Google's 2004 IPO.
Payout Ratio and Free Cash Flow: How Sustainable Is the Google Dividend?
Measured against earnings, the dividend is tiny. Per TIKR, Alphabet's payout ratio fell to 2.40% in the second quarter of 2026, from roughly 7% to 9% a year earlier. That drop says more about earnings than about the dividend.
According to the second quarter 2026 earnings release, other income included a net gain of $98.0 billion, primarily unrealized gains on equity securities, which added $77.1 billion to net income and $6.26 to diluted earnings per share of $9.11.
Those gains are non-cash and can reverse, so the very low payout ratio flatters the picture.
Cash flow is the tighter test. The same release shows operating cash flow of $39.1 billion in the second quarter and capital expenditures of $44.9 billion, leaving free cash flow of negative $5.9 billion.
First quarter free cash flow was $10.1 billion, so free cash flow for the first half of 2026 was about $4.2 billion. Over that same half year, the cash flow statement records dividend payments of $5.2 billion.
On a trailing twelve month basis, free cash flow was $53.3 billion, according to the release.
Cash flow item (US$ billions) | Q1 2026 | Q2 2026 | Trailing 12 months |
|---|
Operating cash flow | 45.8 | 39.1 | 185.7 |
Capital expenditures | 35.7 | 44.9 | 132.4 |
Free cash flow | 10.1 | -5.9 | 53.3 |
Two forces shape the read. On one side, the dividend is small relative to the business: TIKR reports cash and marketable securities of $242.5 billion against $98.2 billion of long-term debt, and Alphabet's 10-Q shows it repurchased no shares in the first half of 2026, compared with $28.3 billion a year earlier.
On the other side, capital spending is rising fast. As reported by TIKR, CFO Anat Ashkenazi raised 2026 capex guidance to $195 billion to $205 billion, from $180 billion to $190 billion, and said free cash flow "will remain under pressure" during the AI infrastructure buildout.
The data shows a dividend that is modest and backed by a large cash balance, while near-term free cash flow coverage has thinned. Future dividends remain a Board decision each quarter, and nothing in the filings guarantees further increases.
For income-focused readers, Alphabet's payout sits at the low end among megacap tech payers. Per Microsoft's June 10, 2026 announcement, Microsoft declared a quarterly dividend of $0.91 per share, payable September 10, 2026.
According to Meta's May 28, 2026 release, Meta Platforms declared $0.525 per share on its Class A and Class B stock, payable June 25, 2026.
Per-share amounts are not directly comparable across companies with different share prices, but they show that Alphabet's dividend is a supplementary feature rather than the core of its shareholder return.
Next Alphabet Ex-Dividend Date: What Shareholders Need to Know
To receive a declared dividend, an investor must own the shares before the ex-dividend date. A purchase on or after the ex-date does not carry that quarter's payment. For the September 2026 payment of $0.22, the ex-date was September 4, 2026, according to StockEvents.
As of October 8, 2026, Alphabet has not declared its next quarterly dividend. In 2026 the company announced its dividends alongside quarterly results, in the April 29 and July 22 earnings releases.
StockEvents lists an expected payment on December 15, 2026 with an ex-date of December 8, but that is an estimate based on past timing, not a company announcement. The official amount and dates will only be confirmed when Alphabet's Board declares them.
