Gotrade News - The Indonesian government has decided not to increase electricity rates during the second quarter of 2026. This policy aims to maintain the stability of household purchasing power ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations. Tri Winarno, Acting Director General of Electricity, stated that this decision aligns with current regulations and economic conditions.
This effort is crucial to ensure that the public can enjoy Eid without the additional burden of rising electricity costs. The government hopes this step will ease household expenses and support buying power amid current economic challenges.
The stable electricity rates apply to 13 non-subsidized customer categories and 25 subsidized categories. The evaluation of rates is based on economic parameters such as the exchange rate, inflation, crude oil prices, and the coal benchmark price.
For the second quarter of 2026, the economic parameters reveal an exchange rate of Rp 16,743.46 per USD, oil prices at USD 62.78 per barrel, inflation at 0.22%, and coal prices at USD 70 per ton. Although these conditions typically lead to rate adjustments, the government is holding off on changes to ensure economic stability.
PT PLN (Persero) has been tasked with ensuring reliable electricity supply during the Eid period. The government stresses the importance of operational efficiency and improving service quality to maintain national energy resilience.
This policy of stable electricity rates underscores the government's commitment to economic stability and public welfare. This approach not only preserves industrial competitiveness but also supports economic growth amidst global dynamics.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is also considering offering electricity rate discounts for disaster-affected areas in Sumatra. This measure is part of the government's focus on assisting communities in need of further support.
The decision to keep electricity rates unchanged has received broad support, as it is seen as a measure to protect public welfare during the Eid period. The public is also encouraged to use electricity wisely to support this policy.
The government hopes that through this policy, households can meet their daily needs without the strain of increased electricity costs. This concrete step supports purchasing power and the national economy while safeguarding the country's energy resilience.
