Regular-session close on Monday, October 26, 2026, 4:00 p.m. New York time. Stock prices: Yahoo Finance, cross-checked against the closing price on Nasdaq.com. Indices and the 10-year Treasury yield: Yahoo Finance daily closes for the same date.
Tesla gapped higher at the open, starting the day above Friday's close, and never traded back down to that level. The shares finished $7.89 above the day's low and below the intraday high. Volume ran 47.27% above average, pointing to heavy participation in the move.
The rally left the broader market behind. Tesla's 5.21% gain beat the Nasdaq Composite's 0.82% rise by 4.39 percentage points, while the S&P 500 added 0.70% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.28%. The US 10-year Treasury yield ended at 4.99%, down 0.2 basis points.
Megacap peers were mixed. Nvidia (NVDA) rose 2.39% and Microsoft gained 1.54%, while Apple slipped 1.10%, Alphabet fell 1.06% and Meta Platforms lost 1.88%. Shares of SpaceX (SPCX), the other side of the merger talk, edged down 0.40%, and electric-vehicle maker Rivian (RIVN) fell 3.38%.
Even after Monday's jump, Tesla closed 21.49% below its 52-week high and 31.69% above its 52-week low.
Why Tesla Stock Rose
Financial media tied the move to a brokerage call and the SpaceX merger talk behind it. According to Yahoo Finance, the rally came alongside Barclays revising its view on Tesla on Monday, with the bank's case built on a possible merger with SpaceX.
As reported by Stocktwits, Barclays analyst Dan Levy cited Tesla's merger opportunity with SpaceX, and BNP Paribas analyst James Picariello also revised his view on the stock.
The merger backdrop dates to last week. In a report dated October 20, TechCrunch said Elon Musk told SpaceX's third-quarter earnings call that the boards of both companies had formed special committees of independent directors, created at shareholders' request, to review a possible combination.
Musk said he could not take part in the committees' discussions because he is a conflicted party, and Yahoo Finance noted that no deal has been announced.
Two more items landed around the session, as Yahoo Finance reported. On Sunday, Musk said SpaceX had closed $40 billion in debt financing to buy AI chips, a bill a merged company would share. On Monday, Tesla's Robotaxi service switched on a larger service area in Houston.
TSLA Stock Analysis: Supporting Factors and Risks
Supporting Factors
ARK Invest analyst Tasha Keeney pointed to Full Self-Driving adoption among Tesla's North American deliveries rising from about 55% in the second quarter to more than 75% in the third, according to Stocktwits.
Tesla is up by double digits in October, the best in the Magnificent Seven, while Meta, Alphabet and Nvidia are lower for the month, per Yahoo Finance.
Volume ran 47.27% above average on the gain, so the move came with heavy turnover rather than thin trading.
Risks
The special committees have not agreed on terms. Musk said a combination should not be assumed to be a certainty, and TechCrunch reported a deal would need a 50% vote from all Tesla shareholders, not just those who vote.
BNP Paribas analyst James Picariello flagged Tesla's multi-year cash burn as a risk, according to Stocktwits.
Tesla is still down by double digits this year, the worst showing in the Magnificent Seven, per Yahoo Finance, and retail sentiment on Stocktwits stayed in bearish territory over the past 24 hours.
